Our Hitachi 3 car is progressing nicely.
We have two versions underway. The first with the original gangway door in the drivers end. The second with the more commonly known gangway door removed.
Hitachi’s operated on the Melbourne network between 1972 and 2014. Electrics were supplied by Commonwealth Engineering to Hitachi’s designs, leading to their official name today. Hitachi trains have been also known as Martin & King or Stainless Steel trains officially. They were the last suburban trains in Melbourne with no air conditioning, and with windows that could be opened. The last Hitachi train was withdrawn from service in 2014.
